A somewhat important shipping deal took place this week, the Ford Shipping Lino (Limited) having purchased the whole- of Mr. George T. Niccol's fleet of scows, including one now building. The Ford Lino will now consist of twelve of the most modern and up-to-date timbercarrying scows. The vessels purchased include the Curlew, Gannet, Seagull, Ranger, and Moa (now building). Th* company has contracted with tha Kauri Timber Company for the carriage of all its timber from coast ports to Auckland for a number of years, including towage of logs. , Since the visit of the Hon. J. A. Millar, the Minister for Marine, to Auckland, there has been renewed confidence in the scow class of vessel. Whilst in Auckland Mr. Millar, after personal inspection and enquiry into scows, stated that he was perfectly satisfied as to their safety, and that his opinion of them had been decidedly altered.
