EQUITABLE BUILDING COMPANY.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of tho Equitable Building and Investment Company, Ltd., was held at the Chamber of Commerce last night. Mr. G. M. Kebbcll (Chairman of Directors) presided. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet (a digest of which has already b.cen published), tho chairman said they had been able to pay the usual dividend after putting os per share to tho reserve fund, and also to carry forward a larger sum by JG4OO to next year's balance. In looking back at previous balances he thought that stood ab a record. Tho deposits had made steady progress, and showed an increase of £13,500, whilst the mortgages had also increased by £7000, the difference between those amounts appearing as other deposits £5500, and thb bank balance being ' £1000 larger- than last year. The only other item that called for special mention was freehold property, £1840. Tho leason that the company had not disposed of that was that it was sold under agreement, and until thatytiftp cx^ved the company .cojld not deal with it. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. Messrs. Beauchamp, ' Dean, and Kebbell woro v re-elected directors. In returning thanks Mr. Kebbcll said he had been a director for 25 years, fifteen years of which ho had been chairman. (Applause. ) Messrs. D.' 1 T. Staurt and S. Carroll were re-elected auditors.' On the motion of Mr. D. T. Stuart, a vote of thanks was passed to the directors and staff. In replying, tho chairman remarked that every year the work of lending money became more difficult, as thero werf bo many private individuals and Companies engaged in tho same enterprise.
