AMATEUR ATHLETICS.

HUTT VALLEY CLUB'S MEETING. A very successful sports gathering •wca held under tho auspices of the Hutt Valley Amateur Athletic Clab on tho Hutt Recreation ground on Saturday. Some of the best-known athletes in the Wellington district competed and the contests were very interesting in consequence. The arrangements were v , escqllently carried out ard the piomptitudc with which each event v;as got - off might well be copied by older societies. Tho weather was bright and wartn and good times were recorded in most cases. Following are the resalts :—: — Handicap, 75 yards.— First heat: E. -E. Fisher, 2|yds, 1 ; B. Henderson, scr, 2. Time, 7 4-sscc. Second heat: A. Golds, 6yds, 1; ».. R. Baumgart, "sydS, 2. Time, 7 3-ssec. Third heat: H. H. Dawson, 2yds, 1 ; L. W. Cozens, 7yds, 2. ' Tune, 7 3-sscc. Fourth heat : | W. H. Pollock/ 2yds, 1 ; J. Beny, Byds, 2. Time, 7scc. Final: Golds, 1; Berry, 2. The time in this event was given at 6 4-ssec! The man with the watch must have been slightly slower than the starfcr and the competitors ! Handicap, 680 yards. — A Mnrray, 40yds, 1; H. W. Thompson, 38yds, 2; R. Gosling, 60yds, 3. Time, 2min 3sec. A very good race. ■ Two ■.valk.— E. Hayes, 350 yds, ■1; D. Ca3hman, 350 yds, 2. The other starters did not finish. A great '"go" was witnessed for places.
