FIRE IN DUNEDIN.

A disastrous fire, resulting" in ' large destruction of property, broke out vi the premises of tho Dunedin Timber Company ih King-street this evening. A strong soutb-wect wind carried tho fire right through the timber-yard from King to Cumberland streets, and as the fire swept along it completely destroyed six cottages owrisd by H. Spiers, tt was checked somewhat by the brigade on roaching Cumberland street. A largo brick building, used at one tinio for a malt house, assisted to prevent the flames going further. Thig building Was in paty occupied by Spray, Bird and Co. for storing chemicals; Neill, Frame and Co., bootmakers; Brown, tea dealer, and Bills, wire worker. Everything in it was destroyed. Tho building itself was completely gutted, only one big empty malting room fronting King street escaping. > The Timber Company'c place was insured for £2500, but with machinery and stock of timber on hand this does not- nearly represent the value of the" picperty destroyed. Spiers was insured, but only for a small amount. Bills's factory was insured for £800 ih the Victoria office. The stock w& valued ot £2100.
