A NARROW ESCAPE.
[ST tKLEQEAPH. — FxIXSS ASSOCIATION.) WAIROA, This Day. An accident at Waikaremoane yesterday afternoon nearly resulted in the drowning of Mr. W. A. Neale. A launch was returning from the daily trip round the lake, and was loaded with tourists. It stopped at Wharema Point to pick up 6ome rowing boats. W. A. Ncale, residing at Tapui, Waikaretnoana, and Harry Bowen, of Hastings, volunteered to fix up the boat's launch to tow. In going to Neale's assistance Bowen stopped on the noso of the boat, and his leg fouling on the rope caused him to collide with Nealo. The sudden impact throw both into the lake. The launch, which was travelling nine miles an hour, circled round and picked up Bowen, who quickly threw a life-buoy to Noale, and swam to his assistance. Neale was weighed down by heavy clothing and could make little headway. The minnow attached to his fishing rod had caught on his back, and the line entangled his body. Bowen passed the buoy over his Head and assisted him to the side of tho launch, and ho was •then dragged on board insensible. Bowon effected the rescue under difficult circumstances.
