TROUBLE ON THE SONOMA.
FORTY-EIGHT MEN SENTENCED. fPßiss Asaoetmoir.l SYDNEY, 31st January. The trouble which arose as the Sonoma was about to leave for Auckland —when the crew walked ashore because of the employment of a non-unionist-was ventilated at court to-day. Fifty-seven men were charged with disobeying orders. Their defence was that their agreement provided for preference to unionists, and this agreement had been broken. Each of the accused was sentenced to four weeks' imprisonment. At a meeting to-night the Seamen's J Union decided to man the Sonoma tomorrow morning.
