A nautical enquiry into the abandonment of the steamer Port Stephens was commenced this morning before Mr. Graham, S.M., assisted by Captains Gordon Moffatt, and A. Morrison. Mr. Fraser represents the ,Crown. Nothing fresh has so far been elicited. At about 11.20 o'clock this morning an outbreak of fire occurred in a. rubbiah heaj) at tho rear of the Lambtonquay Police Station. The flames, which spread to the 'women's cells adjoining ■the main building, were extinguished by the messengers in the Government Building and the Municipal Fire Brigade before much damage had been done. A concert arranged by Mrs. Mueller and pupils was given in the New Century Hall last eveuing. Contributions to the programme were made by Misses W. Rash, Laurent, A. Bnker, Castle, V.
