APPOINTMENT OF A NEW MANAGER. , •Mr. William Callender, who has been, for some time past Government auditor of the Bank of New Zealand, has received the appointment of general manager of the bank in place of Mr. Michie, who is to retire from that post at the beginning of 1907. -Mr. Callender will be succeeded as auditor by Mr. B. M. Litch'field, manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Christchurch. 'Mr. Callender has been in the service- of the Bank of New Zealand for over thirty-five years. He was born at Melbourne in 1855, and was partly educated there and partly in Christchurch. At Christchurch in 1870 he entered the service of the bank as a junior, and his progress \rag rapid. He wae for two years manager of the Wanganui branch of the bank, and be spent some years at the head office in Wellington before he received the appointmenl from which he is now to be promoted. Mr. Burnet 'Murray Litchfteld was born at Adelaide, South Australia, in 1849. At the age of sixteen he entered the Custozns J^epartnxezit o£ Scmtli Australia., *but four years later he resigned from itf and came to New Zealand. He joined tb© Bank of New Zealand at Auckland in 1869, and remained in that city until 1873, when he was transferred to the West Coast (South Island). From 1880 to 1886 ho was manager of the bank at Greymouth, and then ho went to Adelaide, South Australia, as manager of the branch of the Bank of New Zealand in that city. After a visit to England, which lasted for a year, he returned to this country, and in 1890 \he was appointed an assistant iuspector of the bank, which post he filled until he was appointed to his present position in Christchurch.
