TRADE WITH SOUTH AFRICA.
A NEW STEAM SERVICE. The local agents of the Tyser line q£ steamers, Messrs. Bannatyne and Co. (Ltd.), announce their intention of immediately inaugurating a new steam service between New Zealand ports and South Africa. The' first vessel to leave under the new arrangement will be the twin-screw liner Ma'rerc, Captain J. C. Felgate,. which is to sail for Durban and Capetown via Australian ports. The vessel will proceed, on to London. Stie is expected to reach Wellington for loading about tke 20th inst., when her holds will be .open to receive frozen meat, dairy produce, and general cargo. Rat^s of , freight and other particulars can be obtained on application to Messrs. Bannatyne and Co. The Marere will be followed by other steamers at I'egular intervals. 1 Tho above announcement gives" point to the following Reuter cablegram which we published yesterday : — "South African merchants' greatly pleased with prospects direct service. Anxiously waiting news of projected service first steamer."
