Speaking at Arncliffe, Mr. Carruthers, the State Premier, announced that the Lands Department would be placed under commissioners. H6 claimed that the Government's closer settlement policy had placed fifteen thousand people on the land. He also predicted that there would, be a surplus at the end of the year of £1,000,000, atter paying £450,000 off the sinking fund.
