GARRISON BAND'S CONCERT.

The Garrison Band will give a concert at His Majesty's Theatre on the 20th. Included in the programme will be a descriptive fantasia called "A Trip to Blackpool." This is said to be the rage in England at present, and is given with, mechanical effects< Miss "Chegwih,- thft popular Christchurch soprano vocalist, and Miss Mina oald6w, contralto, of Dunedin reputation, have been engaged to contribute vocal items. The box plan is now open at the Dresden. ' ■ l"he Japanese Fair and sale of work which has been in season throughout this week in the Constable*street Congregational Churchroom, in aid of the funds for the building of the new church, is to be brought to a conclusion t)Ks evening. Last night a very entertaining conceit programme was provided by a party of friends from the Courtenay-place Church, The contributors to the programme were Misses Tonks, Lewis, Mitcaff, Lennox, Bedford, Knilandg, ' Henderson/ Stiewart, and Russell, Mesdames Hunt and Lewis, Masters L. Rowntree and V. Lewis, Messrs. J. Bowden, Laycock, J. Thawley; Burnett, and Lewie. This evening there are to be charades and tableaux by the young people of the Newtown Church, and Mr. Sawtell is to give another ventriloqm'al entertainment. Large crowds continue to attend tho nautical ba«aar at the Missions to Seamen, the institute last night being packed. l*he formal ceremony of opening the bazaar yesterday afternoon was performed by Mrs. Williams, through whose generosity the institute building was called into existence. Mr. C. P. Port-les also addressed a few suitable remarks to those present. In the evening an excellent musical programme was pre« sented. Among the contributors were Miss Sewell's Band and Messrs. Anderson, JerveSj aud Tilly, of H.M.S. Pioneer. A squad from the vessel also gave an exhibition of cutlasb drill, and singlettick exercise. The bazaar will again be open this evening.
