THE YOUNG MEN'S BUILDING.

SUCCESS OF THE CAMPAIGN. ONLY A SMALL SUM NOW WANTED. To-night the V.M.C A. campaign for the collection of the sum of £30,00U with which to erect quarters for the association in Willis-street is to be closed. Excellent- , ly organised by Mr. D. A. Budge, of Montreal, the campaign has been so successful that only ,i few hundred pounds were required this afternoon to complete the £10,000. The 'various committees which have had charge of the work have been deligb.ted-.and surprised at the large number -of donations that were voluntarily sent to the head office. Yesterday evening the executive committee was further encouraged by receiving an entirely unsolicited contribution from Lord Plunket, who sent the following interesting letter through Captain Bingham, A.D.C. : — '1 am directed by his Excellency th& Governor to state that he understands that notwithstanding tne 6plen- • did.response which the people of Wellington have made to the appeal for funds in | aid of the building fund, your association has not yet obtained all the money it requires for this purpose. His Excellency earnestly trusts you may be able to complete your new building without incurring any debt, and desires me to enclose you a cheque for twenty-five pounds (£25), with his best wishes for the success of your present undertaking and the future of the V.M.C.A. in .Wellington." "We v.'ill complete the £10,000," said Mr. Holmes, the General Secretary of the association, this" morning, "even if we have to sit up waiting for the shortage until midnight." Sympathetic readers of this article have therefore to think of a faithful band of hopeful collectors waiting in the office on Lambton-quay for the donations, which, will go to complete, a great enterprise.
