Tho Department of Industries and "Commerce has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner, dated Lccdon, 16th inst. :— "The mutton market is quiet but steady at last quotations. The lamb market is very dull, and Australian lamb is in largo supply. New Zealand lamb, Canterbury brand, is quoted j at 4d per 1b; for brands other than Canterbury, 3?d per lb; for Australian, 3gd per lb. There has been no alteration in the beef market .since last week. Tho butter market is very firm, and the supply falls short of the domand. Choicest i New Zealand butter is quoted at 116s per ewt, and Danish at 120s per cwt. The cheese market is firm, and prices continue to advance. The cargo of cheese by tho Paparoa arrived in good condition. New Zealand is quoted at 61s, and Canadian at 625. The hemp market is steady, and fair business is doing. The price for Now Zealand hemp, 'good fair Wellington' grade, on spot to-day, per ton, is £31 10s ; January to March shipments, £31. Tho cocksfoot seed market is quiet. Bright, clean New Zealand cocksfoot seed, weighing 171b per bushel, on spot/ is 52s per cwt."
