ASSOCIATION NOTES.

[By Vanguabd.] The members of the postponement committee, not being weather prophets may easily be excused for not bestiring themselves on Saturday to postpone the Charity Cup matches set down for decision at Miramar. The weather in town until 12,30, although, showery, was fine enough to permit of. the matches being played, but as the afternoon wore on, the showers became more frequent and the prospects of the matches being contested less hopeful. Arrangements had been made for the match between Queen'a Park and Rovers to have been played on Newtown Park. The use of the ground was withheld as soon as rain set in, and the match had to be transferred to Miramar. Neither the teams nor the referee appeared at the contesting ground, consequently the match had to be postponed until to-day. Tho other senior match for the Charity Cup was held despite the unfavourable weather, the contestants being Swifts and V.M.C.A. Both teams had to fill up vacancies with juniors, bufc Swifts having the stronger combination won by seven goals to one. Players may take it for granted that no more matches will be postponed this season. There are several factors which make it absolutely necessary that the remaining matches should be played in -any weather, one being that the Association forfeits the use of the polo ground at Miramar at the end of this month when the Polo Association takes it over, and another being that cricketers will bo claiming the use of Newtown Park within tho next few weeks. There- is a. possibility of a Wednesday competition being organised in Auckland next season. It is stated that two teams have already promised to play in Wednesday matches. The Corinthian team, which carried oS the championship at Auckland this season, has this week been touring in the Taranaki district. The Taranaki representatives intended journeying to Auckland with the Corinthians and playing against the Auckland representatives on' the Kingsland 'ground to-day.' The Charity Banner ' at ' Dunedin has this season been won by the Wakari team,' which recently beat Kaitangata, the winning team of the Cup competition. • • • The O.F.A. have perpetrated somewhat of a curiosity in ,the way of administering 'their by-laws by their recent action in reference to the matter of unregistered players. In a nutshell, the matter seems to the Dunedin Star to be this: The O.F.A.'s by-laws provide that in the event of a club being found guilty of playing an unregistered man that team forfeits the match in which such man has competed. On their own initiative the O.F.A. r investigated and proved that such offence had been committed. ' The next step was the curious part of the "affair. Instead of the offending team being debited with the match it was decided that the law would be enforced in future! In coming to such a decision the O.F.A. were no doubt actuated by the best intentions, bufc lawa are useless if they are not even regarded by the body which framed them. The Northern Club has protested against the decision, but will no doubt rest content with having raised their voices against the inconsistency of the O.F.A. in the matter. The defeat of the Otago representatives last week by Canterbury to the tune of five goals to nil came as a, sm Ipriso to supporters of the Association game in Wellington. The Otago team was not the best combination which the Southern centre possessed, nevertheless it was considered capable of giving a good account of itself. There were three players from the Rangers Club in tho team, two each from Wakari, Kaitangata, 'and Mornington, and one each from Southern and Roslyn. ' Not one of the men who represented Otogo in the New Zealand combination was in the team, and it is said that several other possible representatives could not journey to Christchurch owing to their inability to obtain the necessary leave of absence. . A wrong impression has got abroad as to the positions of the different, teams in the Senior Championship, which was closed last week owing to Diamonds having a lead which could not be overtaken. The following is an official record of the teams, which should clear up the misunderstanding at present in existence : — •8 . . g -2 & i ■S £88 J3 2 • -S Diamonds ... 11 8 0 3 32 7 19 Rovers .... 10 6 3 1 24 22 13 Queen's Park 12 5 4 3 11 18 13 St. John's ... 9 4 1 4 23 9 12 Swifts A ... 10 5 4 1 25 12 11 V.M.C.A. ... 10 1 8.1 3 23 3 Swifts B ... 10 0 9 1 4 32 1 Tho Junior Championship was won by Diamonds A team with a score of 21 points, Swifts was next with a score of 20 points, and Porirua third with a score of 15 points. Swifts and Marist Bros. 1 Old Boys A play off to-day for the third time for the Third League Championship.
