A domestic tragedy occurred at ArchHill last night. John Davies, a man agsd thirty-five years, followed 'his wife to tlvs residence of Mrs. Alice Porter, where a. single young man named RichaTd Chapman was staying. The husband entered the house) found hie wife and Chapman .together, drew a revolver and fired at his wife. The shot missed 'her, and the man then fired at Ohapman, the bullet grazing - his stomach. He next turned the weapon on himself shooting bimself in .the forehead. The man died instantaneously. Constable M'Gilp had observed a man prowling around suspiciously, and, following 'him, heard shots in ithe house. Ths constable Tushed in. Davies turned a Revolver at 'him, ,but did not fire, immediately afterwards blowing out his own brains. Later. Mts. Davies and Chapman came here from Sydney recently. Davies followed them. Last night, Davies was observed •Dy the police evidently in a dangerous mood. Htf was watched .by a policeman and another onan. Daviee, swing he was •followed, started running, jumped over a fence into the backyard uf Mts.' Porter's promises, pressed his lace against Hie window, and then entered ths scullery. Ho fired a shot at his wife, who threw herself to the ground snd escaped. Davies {.rushed past her and fired at Chapman. Mrs. Porter, en entering, OTdere-d Davie3 off her premises. He then in her presence and in the presence of the constable blew his own brains out.
