STANFORD DRAMATIC COMPANY.

ENTERTAINMENTS, ETC.

HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE.

MUSICAL EXAMINATION RESULTS.

"DOROTHY."

The "Dorothy" season of seven nights by the Wellington Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society will open at the Opera House to-morrow night. The opera has been played b} r the society once before — namely, in 1898, when a good season resulted, both financially and artistically. Tho local society's production promises to surpass any of its pievious efforts. The cast is a very strong one indeed, including several old favourites and one or two who have not previously been seen in the society's performances. The nameparb will be taken by Miss Amy Murphy, who is now well kndwn in Wellington. Miss Pulsford, who is cast for the part of Lydia, is the possessor of a, flue contralto voice, and will be heard to advantage in the many concerted items in which she takes part. The s important part of Mrs. Privctt will be again filled by Mrs. Carte. The fun of the opera depends on this character and that of the sheriffs officer Lurcher. The latter role will be, entrusted to Mr. W. D. Lyon, who will have full scope for the exercise of his well-known low-comedy capabilities. The scapegrace Geoffrey Wilder nnd his ffiend Harry Sherwood will be represented by Mr. Frank Graham (who has been specially engaged) and Mr.« .Arthur Ballance respectively. Mr. Graham was for several seasons with the Carl Rosa Company,, and has therefore had considerable experience in the higher class of opera. ' Mr. Arthur Ballance is a leading baritone. The other parts will be filled as follows :— Phyllis, Miss ' Winnie Birch ; Lady Betty, Miss Cook; Squire Bantam, Mr. W. Parsons; Tuppitt, Mr. R. Duff; and Tom Strutl, Mr. H. Evans. The incidental dances have been arranged by Miss Beere. Mr. Maughan Bamett will be the conductor, and Mr. W. D. Lyon will act as stage manager. ' The expenses of the production will be about £500.

A large crowd of patrons gathered in His Majesty's Theatre last aight to welcome .the addition of .the Rollos to Fuller's Entertainers. The new players are specialists in musical /sketches, and in that given last night,." The Troubles of a Bachelor," JMiss Laura Rollo scored with her contributions, " O'Rsilly " and " A Bit of Blarney," and wa6 again enthusiastically encored in the " Bachelor Duet" with Mr. Chas. Rollo. Tho sketch is full of rim and diversion. The many other members of (the company were seen and heard to advantage, including Signor Torzillo and his harp, Miss Stella Lipman's singing, >the coon contributions of Misses El6ie Brown and Nelly Power, and the Messrs. Fred Rivenhall and Les Wartdn in comic songs.

• "Saved from the Sea" waa repeated last night at the Theatre Royal, and was well received by a large audience. The play abounds in striking situations and exciting incidents, which are done full justice to by an efficient company, ariel the general effect is added to by good mounting and appropriate scenery. Messrs. .Charles Stanford and A. Boothman and Miss B. Glover gained much applause; by their powerful rendering of tho principal parts, and they were well supported by the rest of the company. To-night the third performance of the drama will be given.
