MR. FISHER'S CHARGES.

FORM OF THE ENQUIRY. ON STRICTLY DEPARTMENTAL LINES. The Auditor-General (Mr. J. K. Warburton) received his instructions this morning to hold an enquiry into the allegations made by Mr. Fisher* M.H.R., regarding a certain payment said to have been made to Captain Seddon, and it is possible that it may be opened to-morrow. At any rate, the Auditor-General will begin hia investigations" not later than Monday next. The enquiry, which will be held in Mr. Warburton's own office in the Government Buildings, will be conducted strictly on Departmental lines, and it is understood that representatives of the press will* not be permitted to attend. The position now arrived afc in connection with the charges made by Mr. Fisher concerning an alleged payment to Captain Seddon is not altogether satisfactory to the New Liberal Party. They desired a full and public enquiry, and •Mr. Fisher states that while he has accepted the investigation offered a3 better than notiiing at all, he regrets that the Premier would not take tiie proper course in 'tho matter and allow the public the fullest opportunity of judging the merits of the case. Ac some of the charges brought by the New Liberal Party against the administration of the Government have been obscuTed in the mass of talk that has followed on their utterance, ths party at its meeting in tho Town Hall on Monday promises to make its position perfectly clear. Both Mr. Taylor and Mr. Fisher will review the circumstances leading up to the present state of affairs. They are likely to have some-thing, to say of interest to all electors of the city.
