EVIDENCE BEFORE THE COMMISSION. "A FKIENDLY GIFT." IPBESS ASSOCIATION^ SYDNEY, 9th August. At a sitting of the Lands Commission to-day evidence was giv«n that £25 was paid to a member of the Legislative Assembly, in connection with getting a lease 'through. Hugh M'Donald, another M.L.A., admitted receiving £50 in connection with another lease. He explained that the applicant was a friend, and lie accepted the money as a friendly gift. One witness deposed that no landagent could obtain an improvement lease. Only three men in Sydney could do so — Willis, Bath, jand Close. He explained that this was during the time Messrs. Crick and O'Snllivan were Ministers. Further expert evidence was given pointing to forgery of signatures on applications for laad. THE EXTRADITION OF WILLIS. SYDNEY, 9th August. A detective will leave- on Saturday to bring vV. N. Willis back to Australia from Durban.
