In the House of Representatives the 1 adjournment was moved to discuss Sir William Lyne'e action in raising the import duty on harvesters to £65. Mr. Reid and others argued that it was never intended the Minister should use the arbtrary powers given him in this manner. Sir William Lyne had practically found the Massey-Harris Company guilty without giving it a chance of replying, and the action was taken in such a manner as to prevent any redress. Sir William Lyne replied that if the company wished to bring an action against the Government it would be given every iacility to do so. A LOSS TO THE COMMONWEALTH. (Received August 10, 9.27 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. In the House of Representatives Sir William Lyne stated that the Commonwealth had been losing between £30,000 and £40,000 per annum owing to American misrepresentation of the harvesters.
