CHINAMEN FINED.
SLY GROG CASES.
[»T TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WANGANUI, This Day. At the Polico Court this morning, before Mr. Stanford, S.M., two Chinamen, Su Cliong and Wah Lee, wero charged with smoking opium, also with having 'opium in their possession. Tho accused, who about two months ago were heavily fined on similar charges, wero convicted, *nud each lined £5 on tho 'first charge. On the chargt) of having opium in their possession each^was fined £25 with costs. The total fines and costs amounted to £66 9s. A month was given to defendants in which to pay tho fines.
» [BY TELEGRAPH—IUUSSS ASSOCIATION] ASHBUR-TON, This Day. At the Magistrate's Court four of the witnesses /or the defence in Iho recent sly g/og cases wero charged with illegally dcffhng in liquor. Tho defence was that they were lawfully on the premises, two of thorn being boarders. Tho Magistrate disbelieved tho defence, convicted each accused, and fined them each 20s and costs.
