[l)T TEtKOEAPn — riIKSS ASSOCIATION.] DANNEVIRKtf, This Day. Last evening a man named Guilliardi had a marvellous escape from death &{\ tho railway 'platform. Ho jumped on toa train that was being «hiu)lod, thinking it was tho \Yoodville train, ou which ho was nn intending passenger. He dune 1 to tho guard iron for a few yards, and then fell between the carriage and platform. In failing he was struck by tile stop and rendered unconscious. Lying quite list in this position, bis face was grazed by the steps of two carriages. The man sustained no serious injury. FEATHERSTON, This Day. A young man named Arthur Cundy, fc son of Mr. J. 8. Cundy, aged twenty-two years of age, was killed yesterday thrdugh juisaing from n load of hay on to a hay foik. . DUNEDIN, 29th January. ' Tlie tug Plucky, with members of th« Otago Harbour Board, the engineei* and a 'number of visitors, went down to the Heads this nillcrnoun to hvspect lh<i Board's works ami witness a big blast, The blust consisted of 800'.b of gun<> powder in a drive flOlt long, just opposite the j,otty at the North Head. Most of the spectators wero standing on tha jetty, aud tho blast blew out in thafc direction, sending s.howers of stones ajong <he jetty. Mr. F. A. Joseph, a reporter on the Otago Daily Times, who was with, the party, was hit on the head and killed instantaneously. Mr. E. G. Allen, M.H.K., was wounded on un ankle, but .not seriously. Mr. Patrick Ryan, whb wae standing at the extreme head of the jetty, wns struck with a stone,, and had an arm broken. BLUFF, 29th January. As a school excursion train was re< turning fiom the Bluff to Riversdale this evening n passenger named M'Carlhy fell therefrom at Big Pond, about a milo from Bluff. A case of sunstroke in the PaJmerstoni district has terminated fatally, the victim being a lad named James Garvau. Tho wharf labourer William Main, who was injured whilst working on tha Queen's Wharf j-e&terday morning, died, at the Hospital at. about 7 o'clock last night.
