At the quarterly meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, after the President had reviewed the leading events of the period, a resolution was passed regarding general average, to the effect :hat attention having been drawn to the unsatisfactory conditions attending the preparation o'£ general average statements; the Chamber is of opinion as regards statements prepared in "England, that the delay in publication is out of proportion to the labour and research involved, while the fees • charged are excessive and the Chamber strongly recommends importers to use their influence to have " all statements connected with inward vessels prepared in the colony. A resolution of the Napier Chamber -was endorsed, to the effect that the Minister of Marine be requested to have the shipping laws so amended that all vessels must have certificates before leaving the main ports that the bpats are properly provisioned and all appliances for life-saving are in order, and that the Minister be asked to get the cooperation of the Federal Government in this direction.
