ENTERTAINMENTS, ETC.

THE WILLIAMSON MUSICAL COMEDi COMPANY. Another crowded house greeted the performance of "A .Runaway Girl" by the Williamson Comedy Company last evening. A new feature was introduced in the fo^m of the " Picraninies " duet by Miss Rose Musgrove and Mr. Fred. Graham, who had to respond to a double encore. This evening will be the last opportunity of Avitnessing the comedy. On Monday evening, Mr., J. C. Williamson's Company will present for the first time in Wellington the singularly successful comedy "San Toy." The scene of this light and fanciful work is laid partly in China and partly in Japan, thus affording abundant scope for picturesque scenery, quaintly designed and gorgeous costumes, and effective stage groupings. Needless to say, these departments of stage craft will be attended to in the lavish style peculiar to Mr. Williamson's productions. The success of "San Toy" in England and America, and more recently in Australia, is said to have been phenomenal, quite eclipsing any of the long series of triumphs associated with Mr. George Edwards's famous Gaiety Companies. The production will be under the stage management of Mr. Fred. Graham, and the scenery and costumes will be an exact replica of those used in the London and Melbourne production of tho comedy. Judging by the booking, there should' be a crowded house to welpcme " San. Toy " on Monday night. DIX'S" GAIETY COMPANY.' Aftei a short absence, Mr. P. R.. Dix will open the Theatre Royal this evening with a strong combination of variety artists, amongst them being Messrs. Callahan and Mack, the inimitable Irish comedians; Mr. Blown Parker (first appearance in New Zealand), ball puncher and comedian ; May Lewis and Olive Lenton, Ernest Filt3 , Clark and Cowan and several others. Mr. P. R. Dixs Gaiety Company reaped a harvest as a result of its short visit to Palmerston North during the progress of the Manawatu Agricultural Show. The local theatre was practically packed every night, and as the full force of the Wellington company took part in the entertainments, the provincial audiences were prori-ded with good fare, which they appeared to appreciate to the fullest extent. " The company returned to iown by this morning's tiain. The combined cricket clubs of Petone carried out a concert last evening, the object being to raise funds for the improvement of the local cricket ground. There was a ff>ir -attendance. The second part consisted of the performance oi a bright comedy by the members of tho Petone Comedy Club. The Palmersfon Amateur Operatic Society gave a double bill during showweek, and did exceedingly well from a monetary point of view with performances of "The Mikado" and "Utopia, Limited."
