NEGOTIATIONS WITH THE EASTERN COMPANY. [press association.! MELBOURNE, 14th November. Sir Edmund Barton has re-opened negotiations with Mr. Warren, manager of the Eastern Extension Company, with regard to the proposed cable agreement between the company and tho Australian Commonwealth. Ib is unofficially understood that there are good prospects of an early settlement which will result in a substantial reduction of rates to and from Eastern stations. ' Should the receipts keep up to a stipulated limit, a reduction, may also be made in the European rates from the end of the year. As a. test of the capabilities of the line, the Eastern .Extension Company recently flashed a special message from Adelaide to London and back in three minutes.
