AN UNSEAWORTHY SHIP.
REPORT OF THE COMMISSION ON f THE BALMAIN. [press association.] SYDNEY, 14th November. In the Legislative Assembly the Pretnier (Sir John See) tabled the report of the Royal Commission which has been enquiring into the circumstances under which the steamer Balmain was recently condemned as unseaworlhy at Auckland, {New Zealand. The Commission finds that on the 12th February last the Balmain was in such a state that she should nob have been allowed to proceed to sea; that before a certificate was issued on that date there was not a proper or sufficient survey made by an engineer and surveyor ; that no such certificate should have been issued when the steamer left on her last Voyage to New Zealand ; and that when detained at Auckland she was unseaworthy, th>e authorities being amply justified in acting as they did.
