"PEOPLE'S DAY.". (Br Telegraph.) (from our own special beporter.) PALMERSTON N., This Day. The same old breeze is blowing, but the day is otherwise suitable, and a large attendance is expected, for this is "People's Day, when • all stockand other competitive exhibits are to be seen in order of merit. Various ring competitions are in progress this morning and the afternoon, will be taken up with a parade of all the stock in the show, the annual hunters' competition, for which there is a large entry, and a wood-chopping contest, which is j the last event of the day. Nathan Brothers (Palmerston North) won the points prize for draught horses, scoring 58 points, J. A. Gamman and Company (Palmerston North) being second with 34. A. Southey Baker (Urenui) carried off similar honours in classes 1 to 40 (which include thoroughbreds, v hackneys, ponies, saddle and harness horses), with 18 points. E. Stevenson (Palmerston North) was second with 14. First prizes are worth £10 each, and were presented by the Citizens of Wellington. The through, train from Wellington brought an immense number of passengers. The Hon. W. C. Walker is representing the Government. ' The Stratford Bacon Company secured first prize for collection of hams and bacon, Inglewood Co-operative Company second and highly commended. The North Island Company misapprehended the conditions, and were unable to compete, bub showed an attractive collection of factory products, illustrating that nothing is wasted nowadays. The tandem-driving competition was won by H. G. M'Garty, with L. G. West second ; the driving competition by J. D. Manson, with E. Stevenson second. PALMERSTON N., 13th November The New .Zealand Jersey Ccittle Breeders' Association met to-night, sixteen members from all parts of the colony attending. Twelve new members were elected, and Mr. Hulke, of Taranaki, a breeder of nearly half a century standing, was made the first honorary life member of the Association. The data for receiving applications for registration in the Association's herd book was fixed for the 31st January, 1908. Applications must be lodged with the Secretary, Mr. J. C. Lane. A special committee was set up to confer with kindred societies with the object of obtaining legislation more suitable to the Association than that afforded under the provisions of the Unc^issified Societies Act. The .annual -general meeting of the Association was fixed to be held at Masterton during February show, when the new council will be elected. There was a large and representative gathering at the annual "smoke" concert given by the Association to judges and other officials. A pleasant evening was spent in song, speech, and story. Mr. D. J. Nathan proposed the toast of the Agricultural Department, which was responded to by Messrs. Kirk and Reakes. In responding to the toast of "Breeders," Messrs. Stuckey and Donald Fraser advocated greater care in the selection of males, soundness of constitution to be insisted upon. Mr. J. G. Harkness, in 1 toasting the Association, advocated the holding of a winter show. The President (Mr. Hugh Gillies), who occupied the chair, responded. In proposing the health of the judges, he said he considered the Government should issue free railway passes to judges engaged at agricultural shows. He added that the judges at the present show had given general satisfaction. Responses were made by several .of the judges, who spoke in complimentary terms of the Palmerston Show. Mr. Barriball, of Auckland, looked forward to the completion of the Main Trunk Line so that Auckland and the Manawatu could become competitors at their respective shows. Other toasts wers honoured, and a pleasant gathering concluded jusb before midnight.
