SEARCH FOR THE MISSING.

The Secretary of the Post Office received the following message from the Postmaster at Mangonui at 2 o'clock this morning : — "Clansman just returned to Hohoura from search for Elingamite's missing boat and raft. Will leave Hohoura for Auckland 9 or 10 to-morrow morning with survivors from Hohoura. She reports having communicated with the other vessels, and none of them have seen anything of the missing boat and raft. The Penguin has gone 60 miles north of the Cape to make a further search. The Greyhound picked- up three corpses — two steerage passengers and a fireman. There is not the least sign of any mails anywhere. The Marine Department has received the following telegram from the Principal Lightkeeper at Cape Maria van Diemen : "Clansman is at Hohoura taking off the survivors. Greyhound returned to Awanui with three dead bodies, but found nothing else. Countess of Ranfurly and Omapere continuing the search. The Sterling was to have reported nere yesterday, but has not turned up. Dense fog this morning."
