AUCKLAND, This Day. With reference to tho complaints thati the parents of children attending private school* are threatened with prosecution for not sending them to public Bckoolts, the Truant Officer states that it is bimply a matter of regular attendance of the children, whether" in public or privata schoolß. There has been no attempt ta take children from private schools. Fre^ quently, when parents have been dealt with for not sending their children to school they have said that the children are attending private schools, when they are not attending any school. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. David Barry, prosecuted by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, was fined £5 by Mr. Beetham, S.M., this morning for working a hcrse when it was in a unfit condition. A case against- William Shaw, ah old* age pensioner, charged with making wilfully a false statement by means of which he obtained a larger amount than he was entitled to, was dismissed by Mr. Bishop, S.M., on a law point— that the Court had no jurisdiction, the lnior. mation not having/ been laid within six months, as provided by the Act.
