CONGRATULATORY MESSAGES.

As soon as n.n intimation was received that cable communication had been established with Fiji, the Postmaster-Gen-eral (Sir Josoph Ward) sent the following cablegram — the first to pass over the line —to the Bon. W. L. Allardyce, Administrator of Fiji :—- -"The linking of Fiji 6y cable with New Zealand und other countries is an event of immense importance historically and commercially. I offer you and tho people of Fiji my warmest congratulations, and express the hope that the connection may be the means of further cementing tho ties between our respective countries and assisting in the development of mutual trade relations advantageous to the people of both colonies.—(Signed) J. G. Wurd." In reply the Administrator cabled :— "Heartily reciprocate congratulations on connection of Fiji with New Zealand by cablo."
