INTERTAINMENTS; ETC. DIX'S GAIETY COMPANY. .

As usual, there was a .change of programme at the Exchange Hall on Saturday. j There was a full house, and the various items were received with rounds of applause. Miss Alice Layton, who has a sweet soprano voice, made her first appearance, and won her way into favour with her rendering of "Annie Laurie." Miss Layton knows how to use her voice, and her singing is much above the average level of the music-hall. Little Eileen Boyd was well received on making her farewell appearance, all her items being roundly applauded. Tom Leonard can always rely upon two or three encores for his humorous songs, which are funny without being vulgar. Mr. Walter Rivers sung with great success the ballad "The Village Blacksmith," and Mr. Cyril Iredale was heard to advantage in the s.ong "Tom and I'll go too." The Staunton Sisters with their clever .dancing, and Miss Ivy Foster, the serio-comic, were also very good. Lazern with his sleight-of-hand tricks gives variety to the entertainment, and his performance is very interesting, for ho is very neat with his tricks, completely mystifying the audience. Davy's Royal Marionettes, however, create the most amusement for both old and young. They are faultlessly manipulated, and the "turn" is the most welcome on {he programme.
