[I>RES3 ASSOCIATION.] NAPIER, This Day. Judgment was given by the Magistrate to-day in the case against Mr. R. L. Patterson, of Messrs. Patterson, Mossman., and Co., for breach of the Stamp Act. Defendant took an unstamped promissory note for money lent, and on tho borrower renewing gave up the original note, taking another. The Magistrate held that there had been substantive payment of the first note, and that as the note was payable at defendant's offices on due date, the renewal was equivalent to presentation for payment. As such offence was easily committed, but. less easily detected, ho imposed the substantial penalty of £20 and costs. MANGAWEKA, This Day. Tho Horn W Ha.ll- Jones, Minister of Public Works, paid a visit to the viaduct on Saturday. He came back to Ma.ngaweka, and looked at the proposed station site and bridge. He is to-day inspecting the line towards Taihape, and will proceed as far as Paengaroo. CHRISTCHUUCH, 10th November.
