The Defence Department has in hand the selection of six non-commissioned officers of the Permament Artillery who are to be sent to England to undergo training in gunnery. The men are to be chpsen for their educatipn a-ud eflictency, to be uftdor the age of 32 years, and be such as aro most ukely to benefit/ by the special instruction. They will have the rank of bonibadier or actingbomba&ier, and are 'to leave Wellington by the Sydney steamer in time to catch, the Austral, as the "long course" in gunnery, for which they are to be entered begins early in January. One representative will be chosen, lvom Dunedin, another from Auckland, and the other four from Wellington, and they "will be absent for aboub v .year. Tho first supper of the Chemists' Assistants and Apprentices' Association was held on Thursday evening at the Trocadero, and was largely attended. Songs and instrumental music was provided by Missis. King, Letham, Ballance, Futton, M'Kenzie, Sinclair, Kenny, Toohirl and James. Messrs. Staples and Pickering were- Chairman and Secretary respectively. . Messire. W. E. Under. instructions from, Mr. and Mrs. E. J, Campion tho firm will submit at its, property sslo on Thursday, 22nd instant, 23 sections adjacent to the Kelburne Tramway, and other properties in tho Karori district, also a farm on tho Hutt-Waikanae-road- On same date will, bo submitted buildings sites at Karori, adjoining tho residence of Mr. Chas. Cathie,, and properties on tho Karori-roact, opposite the Botanical Gardens, being sold to close up the accounts in the estate of tho late Mr. T. W. Hall. The firm reports, & brisk demand for five and six-roomed houses within easy distance of, the centre of tho town, and. invites owners having such for sale to send particulars. Pearson) advertise a sale of drapery, carpets, and ftirnishings for Monday afternoon. On Saturday next a Ferris Wheel, in full working order will be sold on behalf of Mr. Stewart, of Petono.
