FURTHER REDUCTION OF .HATES PROMISED. [PRESS ASSOCIATION.] ' LONDON, 9th November. At a meeting of the Eastern Telegraph Extension Cpmpany, Sir John Barry stated- that the standard of revenue had been maintained since the tariff was reduced in May ; consequently there would be a further reduction of sixpence on Ist January. 1% the standard were maintained, there would be additional reductions of sixpence, in January, 1902 and 1903, when the rate woutd be sixpence lower ttuan the, proposed Pacific tariff. The Eastern service would also be much the faster. He did, not think the company had much to. fear from the Pacific cable. It was hoped to open the Cape-to-Australia cab& at the end of i-01.
