PETONE BULB SHOW.
Notwithstanding that heavy rain set in short.y before 3 o'clock, there Ava-s a very fair attendance afc the opening of fhe Bulb Show at. Petone yesterday afternoon. Bishop Wallis performed the opening ceremony. The scheduled prize-list consisted of twenty items, for Avhich there Avere about 100 entries and over 1000 exhibits. Blooms of narcissi, daffodils, and kindred llowers predominated, and there Avere some fine specimens of anemones, hyacinths, tuaps, oamelias, native clematis, pansies, and pot plants. The judges in the competitions were — Pot plants 'and cut flo Avers, Messrs. Gibbons, Cooper, and Glen ; bouquets, sprays, etc., Mcsdames Pharazyn, NeAVina.ii, and Heaton Rhodes ; tea cake competition Mesdamcs Travers, Riddiford, and Jones. Their awards were as folloavs : — Best collection hyacinths — Miss Hector. Threa varieties anemones, single — Miss Foster. Three varieties anemones, double —Miss Foster, 1 ; Mrs. London, 2. Best col.ection of narcissi — Dr. Perry. Four varieties yellow trumpet daffodils — Gibbons and Co., 1; Mr. Westbury, 2. Four varieties bi-colour and white trumpet daffodils — Gibbons and Co. Four varieties polyanthi narcissi — Gibbons and Co. , 1 ; S. V. Bui-ridge, 2. Six varieties single- narcissi, not included in above classes— Gibbons and Co. , 1 ; S. V. Burridge, 2. Three varieties narcissi, double —Gibbons and Co., 1 ; Mr. Westbury, 2. Specimen foliage plant in pot — Mrs. Russell. Specimen flowering plant in pot — Lady Hector. Co-ilection spring flowers — Lady Hector, 1 ; Dr. Perry, 2. Table decoration, any flowers— Mis. Riddiford, 1; Mrs. Perry, 2. Hand bouquet, not- shower — Miss Coleridge, 1; Miss Collett, 2. Lady's spray — Mrs. Perry. Gentleman's buttonhole — Miss E. Hector. Bouquet, school children only— Miss L. Ballinger, 1 ; Miss B. Price, 2. Gentleman's buttonfcoie, school children — Miss E. Hector, 1 ; Miss P. Riddiford, 2. Lady's spray, bchool children — Miss E. Hector, 1 ; Miss P. Riddiford, 2. .Special prize for finest display in slioav — Gibbons and Co. k Tea cake competition. — Class I—Miss1 — Miss Percy, 1; Miss Howard, 2. Class 2— Miss Barber, 1; Mrs. Jenkins, 2. Class S— Mrs. Jos. Jones, 1 ; Miss Hector, 2. Tho attendance at night exceeded expectation, and a programme of musical a.nd graphophono • items Avero submitted. Mrs. R. C. Kirk proved a capable Secretary. The proceeds are- to be devoted to the new Anglican church building fund, in aid of which Messrs. Gibbons and Co. nave presented for sale at the close of the shoAV tbst Avhole of their exhibits. The show will again be open this afternoon and evening.
