SYDNEY, 20th July. Private Tom Morris, who has been recommended for the Victoria Cross, and who was recently invalided home, has had a serious relapse. OTAGO'S PATRIOTIC FUND. OBJECTION TO 9 THE POOLING SCHEME. At a meeting of the Organising Committee of the Patriotic Fund to consider tho proposal of the Premier to pool the Patriotic Funds of the colony and administer them from a central source, it was resolved, "That this meeting view with alarm the proposals of the Government to pool the funds now in the hands of the treasurers of committees and administer them in the manner suggested. They are satisfied thnt the great majority of donors to the fund would prefer that the Otago fund be administered locally ; and for the benefit of the local men, who have a claim upon it. They, therefore, are strongly opposed to any legislation on the subject, and urge every Otago and Southland member of Parliament to see that tho Otago funds are left y in the hands of the Otngo people- for the benefit of the invalided members of the various Contingents hailing from Otago and Southland, and those dependent ou them." Copies are to' be sent to the Premier and the M.H.R. 's for JDunedin. The programme for the Peace Celebration at Porirua is outlined in another column.
