SOME REMARKABLE ESCAPES.
TWO PLUCKY RESCUES. ' (Received May 30, 9.50 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Amongst the invalided men is Trooper Strong, of Queensland, who had a remarkable escape. A Mauser bullet went clean through his body, penetrating the stomach and liver, and just missing the spine. At the time he received the wound the party of Queenslanders were retiring before a large body of the enemy. Trooper Thompson gave Strong a drink and led his horse for over a mile under a heavy fire. Another of the party, Corporal Owens, of the New South Wales Mounted Rifles, received four bullets in his haversack before he was badly wounded in the hip. He took refuge in a jackal's hole, and Sergeants Al'lntosh and Barham rode back under a fearfully heavy fire and rescued him. ADELAIDE, This Day. The South Australian portion of the invalided soldiers brought back by the Moravian were publicly welcomed in the Town Hall. They had a great reception in the streets.
