ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES

Respecting the disappearance at Kaipara of Captain Olesen, of the barque City of Agra, his boat was discovered yesterday on Fitzgerald's Spit, about three miles from the ship. There cannot be any doubt that he was accidentally drowned. He leaves a wife in Porsgrund, Norway, having married three months before his departure on the voyage to New Zealand. His wife was to have met him in Liverpool on his arrival there. The boat had evidently capsized through the main sheet having been made fast. When found the boat was half buried in the sand, and there were no signs of the captain's body. It may be remembered that Captain Ole-. sen left the vessel in oue of the ship's boats on the Ist instant, taking some fishing lines with him. Ho remained fishiug near the barque for about twenty minutes, and then sailed across towards the opposite shore. The ill-fated skipper had been in command of the City' of Agra for about a year. DUNEDIN, llth December. A man named Henry Cowan fell over a face at Bannoclcburn on election day. He was not fonnd till midday on Friday. He was alive then, but died shortly after. A verdict of Accidental Death was returned. The jury (Mr. J. Pearce, foreman) which enquired at Pahnutanui yesterday afternoon into the death of the M-year-old lad Frank John Robertson, who accidentally shot, himself on Sunday morning, brought in a verdict of Accidental Deato, with the following rider : — " Tho jury is of opinion that legal provision should be made subjecting lads under 16 years of age, found in possession of firearms, subject to a penalty of fine or imprisonment." It appeared, from the evidence that the deceased had been carrying the gun, an old muzzleloader at half-cock.
