ROWING CLUBS FOR BOYS. TO THE EDITOR.
Sir — Allow me to take up a little of your space to express my astonishment at the want of enthusiasm displayed by the people of Wellington in me matter of encouragement to youths' pastimes, especially rowing and other aquatics. At present, to my knowledge, there are no boys' clubs for these sports in existence, and I think that Wellingtonians should be ashamed to allow such, a thing to continue. Tho Rev. Otho FitzGerald has "set the ball rolling" by his successful efforts to obtain a gymnasium at Newtown, ar\d it remains for somebody else to follow his lead by endeavouring — and 1 think that, any earnest .endeavour would be followed 'by success — to establish a rowing club foif boys. Perhaps some old Christchurch residents may remember the litle Heathcote Club, in which boys' crews were successfully trained to compete against other crews. - This club afforded good proof that boys' crews can often turn out good stuff,- to form in after years senior crews. Hoping that this will be taken up by somebody with socoe go in him, I am, etc., w Stroke. Wellington, 30th January.
