A RECREATION GROUND FOR THORNDON. TO THE EDITOR.
Sir — A recreation ground for Thorndon has been mooted. Government House grounds were once ample an extent and beautiful from position. With the steady roll of time the tram-line, big buildings, and the railway have replaced the beach, the harbour, and the ship at anchor. This lost beauty cannot be recovered, and both area and surroundings are now almost and shortly will -be duite unsuitable.. My suggestion 1 is—^Buy- Mrs.' Rhodes's' property on the Wadestown-road, build a Government House there with a small deer park, etc., and convert the present Government House grounds into the Thorndon recreation ground. Government House must presently be removed to a suitable site on a suitable area, and now is the time to kill two birds with one stone. — I am, etc, , G. F. Richardson.
