CATASTROPHE IN HUNGARY.

A VILLAGE DESTROYED BY FIRE. / _____ HEAVY LOSS OF LIFE AND GREAT SUFFERING. VILLAGERS BURNED, FROZEN, AND TRAMPLED TO DEATH. [PBESS ASBOCIA.TION.J (Received February 7, 9.35 a.m.) Vienna, 6th February. The village of Nagybabroes, in Hungary, has been destroyed by fire, with harrowing loss of life and keen suffering to its inhabitants. Large numbers were burned to death in their houses, or in the attempt to escape, and as many as 90 charred bodies have been recovered. Other villagers, again, were suffocated by the smoke that filled the streets. The circumstances of those who escaped the ravages of the fire itself were aggravatod by the state of the weather. The cold was extreme, and many of the refugees, wandering homeless and almost naked, were frozen to death. The conflagration also caused great stampedes of oxen, and the infuriated beasts trampled yet more of the villagers to death. In all, about 300 houses were burned.
