LYTTELTON HARBOUR BOARD.
A PEPPERY MEMBER MAKES A PUSS. [BY TELEGRAPH — PRE3B ASSOCIATION.] Chuistchukch. 29th December. At the Lyttelton Harbour Board meeting this afternoon it was reported that the first instalment df debentures of the dredging ldan, amounting to £30,000, had been sold at an average price of £100 4s lOd. When the contractors for the supply of timber applied for an extension of time, a small storm arose. The Hon. J. T. Peacock objected to the proposed extension. Mr. Buddo said that in view of the difficulties under which the contractors worked, it would be unfair not to grant the extension. Mr. Peacock objected to the term "Unfair." He said he would not stand insults. The application was eventually granted by five votes to fo,ur, the Chairman not voting. Mr. Peacock demanded that the Chairman should vote. The Chairman said that Mr. Buddo had not intended to insult anyone. He then voted in favour of granting the application. On this, Mr. Peacock got up and said that the Board wns going to the devil, and that he would not attend another meeting. He then left the room, and the Board proceeded with its business.
