[PRESB ASSOCIATION.] Gbeymouth, 25 th September. A fire occurred this morning in a shop occupied by Miss Wisdom, dressmaker. The shop was completely gutted, and the stock destroyed. Mr. Austin's butchery aud dwelling and Messrs. Johnston and Costfgan's bakery were also partly destroyed. The insurance on Miss Wisdom's stock is £30, and the estimated damage is £80. The other places are covered by insurance. Timabu, 24th September. The Opuha Estate, comprising 4900 acres, sheep, horses, &0., was sold at publio auction to-day for £21,500. Mr. Lysaght, of Hawera, was the purchaser. Auckland, 24th September. The latest information regarding coralboring operations at Funafuti states that the hydraulic boring conducted from H.M.S. Porpoise had to be abandoned when a depth of 280 ft had been reached, owing to the boring-rods buckling. A party on shore had bored to a distance of 800 ft. In the Native Land Court this morning Mr. Judge Scannell made an order under section 122 of the Land Court Act, 1894, constituting certain natives interested in the Pahokura Block of 55,000 acres, near Tarawera, a corporation in order that they may elect a committee to deal with the block as they may think fit. It is understood that the land is to be sold to the Government. This is, it is said, the first order of the kind made in the colony.
