THE STRATHMERTON TRAGEDY
[PBESS ASSOCIATION.] (Received September 26, 9.16 a.m.) Mklboubne, This Day. A man named Archer has been arrested at Melbourne for the Strathmerton tragedy, iv which the body of a man named Matthews was found last week tied up in a sack at Strathraerlon, 145 miles north-east of Melbourne. The accused admitted that he was in the company of Matthews about the date of the murder. Matthews and his mate were collecting opossum skins on the 18th inst. A man giving the name of Ax-cher sold a horse and cart near Strathmerton, and came to Melbourne, where he disposed of a quantity of skins.
