PHCENIX CLUB.

The annual meeting of the Phoenix Club was held at the Trocadero last night, Mr. C. TV. Benbow, sen., presiding. The report and balance sheet was adopted without discussion. The report congratulated members on the general improvement shewn by its various elevens engaged in Championship matches. The senior eleven played six matches, of whicb three were won, two were lost, and one was drawn. The eleven was placed second in the Championship, which is a better record than the club has had since*the season of 1891-92. The second eleven did not do so well as was expected. It played eight matches, three being won, four lost, and one drawn. The third eleven was more successful than it has been for some years. Of seven matches played, four were won, one was lost, and two were drawn. During the season T. R. Ellison and H. Page put up a record for Wellington, scoring 159 runs for the first wicket in a junior match against the Old Boys 'C.C. The club took part in nine matches other than those for the Championship, five being won, one lost, and three drawn. The' trophies for the past season were won as follows :— Seniors — Mr. Gully's trophics — Batting, V. Waters ; bowling, G. T. Millward. Juniors— Batting, W. D. Anderson : bowling, R. Wilson. Third Eleven—Batting, A. S. Houston ; bowling, TV. Spence. TV. Harvey and W. Midlaue were even for Mr. Bock's trophy for the highest number of catches made iv the Third Eleven. The thanks of the club were due to the President and Vice-President for their continued support and assistance, and to Messrs. A. Duncan, Pauling, and Wireu for honorary subscriptions ; to Messrs. Bock, Fox, Gulty, and Lachman for trophies ; to Mr. L. St. George for acting as Hon. Auditor during the absence of Mr. Gray ; to Mr. Roberts for the use of a room for committee meetings, and to Mr. Stichbury for scoring." The trophies won by the successful members last season were presented by the Chairman, and Mr. Fox's trophy for the best fielder iv the first eleven was awarded to Mr. \V. Wallace. The meeting balloted for the " Bock " trophy, and Mr. V. Waters was found to be entitled to hold the cup for the ensuing 12 mouths. Several new members were elected, including Wright, the well-known Auckland wicket-keeper, and Masters A. and S. Wills, who had the best bowling aud battiug averages in the public schools last year. The election of offic.ers for the ensuing year resulted as follows : — President, Mr. J. Duncan (re-elected) ; Vice-Presidents, Messrs. F. Allen, C. W. Benbow, H. D. Crawford, M. Fox, H. Gully, A. H. Turnbull, Drs. Cahill and Martin (re-elected), and Mr. R. T. Turnbull; Secretary, Mr. C. E. Stevens (re-elected) ;' Treasurer, Mr. A. S. Houston ; General Committee, Messrs. G. Webb, S. Roberts, G. Millward, R. Wilsou, C. Midlane, and the officers of the club ex qfficio ; Match Committee, Messrs. G. Burton, G. Millward, and C. A. Benbow; Junior Match Committee, Messrs. C. E. Stevens, C. Midlaue, and G. Harris ; Delegate to the Association, Messrs. C. E. Stevens, A. H. Houston, aud G. Webb (special) ; Auditor, Mr. D. S. Gray (reelected). A discussion took place on the question of allowiug country clubs to play for the town championship, and it was decided to leave the delegates a free hand to deal with the matter at the Association meeting. The Chairman announced that Messrs. F. Allen and J. Lachmau had promised trophies for the ensuing year. Mi*. TV. R. Bock was elected an honorary member. After business had been disposed of the 4 members spent the remaiuer of the evening in conviviality. Songs were rendered by Messrs. Wilson, Roberts, Moran, Arundle, Ford ham, Stevens, aud Bush. The " Trophy Winners " was proposed by Mr. S. Roberts and responded to by Messrs. Wilson aud Millward; "The Phoenix Club" was proposed by Sir Kenneth Douglas, who intends playing for the "Old Boys" this season. The singing of " Auld Lang Syne " concluded a very enjoyable evening. The annual meeting of the Karori Club was held on Thursday night, Mr. C. Dasent in the chair. The report stated that the club played 24 matches last^eason, winning 12, losing 10, and drawing 2. were won as follows : — Mr. Lancaster's cup for highest individual score, W. Lowe (105 not out) ; Mrs. Hill's trophy for Cup bowliug, L. Hill (67 runs per wicket) ; Mr. Wilson's trophy for Cup battiug, L. Hill (13 runs average) ; Dr. Newman's trophy for general bowling, J. Spiers (57 runs per wicket). The sympathy of the club was tendered to the widow and daughter of the late Mr. G. Friend, for many years a generous President of the club. The balance-sheet showed a debit balance of £1 4s 2d. Officers were elected as follows : — President, Mr. S. Lancaster ; Vice-Presidents, Mr. C. Wilson, M.H.R., Dr. Newman, Messrs!
