THE WELLINGTON R.C. ANNUAL MEETING.

There are some points about the annual meeting of the Wellington Racing Club that are worth bringing into more prominence than they have yet received. The election of Treasurer resulted in a very easy victory for Mr. G. H. Harbroe, who polled 62 votes to Mr. P. E. Baldwin's 18. The defeat of the latter was no surprise, as it was recognised that Mr. Harbroe was a very hard man to beat, and many thought it would have been far better for Mr. Baldwin to have offered himself as a steward instead of pitting himself apainst the retiring Treasurer. As it is, the club loses his services altogether. The votes polled by the gentlemen nominated for Stewards were: —(Elected) Messrs. A. E. Pearce 64, J. Wilkitis 63, E. J. Riddiford and J. Saunders 58, James Ames 65, G. Hutchison 54, J. B. Harcourt and J. J. Curtis 52. Other candidates : G. H. Harbroe 46, A. E. Gibbs 32, T. K. Macdonald 21. Mr. T. M. Wilford spoke well on behalf of the Hutt trainers, who he considers were treated shamefully as regards tracks compared with other metropolitan courses. He pointed out that it was trainers who

after lying out of their capital with prac- ' tically no return to them for making the railway, would be disinclined to upend uny more money in building bridges for some years to come. This would appear to mean that if the line is to be carried on to the course the club will have to come to the rescue, and that is hardly likely at the present time.
