The report of the Public Works Committee, as published in Tuesday's Post, was adopted with tbe exception of clause 4 (which was struck out pending further enquiries) and the amendment of clauses 12 and 13. The former was amended so that the Council will hear the Wellington Polo Club with reference to its application for the use of Nevvtown Park; clause 13 was amended to read that Harmston's Circus aud other lessees be charged £3 3s per night instead of £2 2s for the use of the Council's land. With these amendments the report was adopted. Councillor Devine said he had not seen any reports on the Fire Brigade lately. The Town Clerk replied that a report would be printed shortly. In auswer to Councillor Devine, the Mayor said that Captain Kemsley had drawn up a sketch of what was wanted in the proposed new Fire Brigade station, but nothiug definite had yet been dove. In auswer to Councillor J. Smith, the Mayor said that Captain Kemsley was not to be the architect for the new station — he was only making suggestions. Leave was refused Mr. Dempsey to erect a building in Hansen-street. Accouuts amounting to £2729 19s 4d were passed for payment. Councillor Luke thought they ought to know the position of the drainage scheme. The Drainage Engineer ought to map out a certain districtand get it finished. He thought a committee ought to go into the matter and report, so that they would know who were on the works and give information as to present wages ami salaries. Councillor M'Gill said he understood that some unnecessary officers were being kept on at an expense which the city could not afford. The Mayor suggested that Councillor Luke should call on the Town Clerk and see the drainage reports and all details of working and expenditure. Councillor Luke said he would do this. The Council then went into committee. COME OUT OF THAT Groove in which you have been travelling so long, and instead of allowing a cold to work its wicked will on you, cure it by the promptest means obtainable, i.e.,. Tonking's j Linseed Emulsion, and so avoid developments of influenza, troublesome coughs, &c. — Advt.
