BOWLING. THORNDON CLUB.
The annual meeting of the Thorndon Bowling Club took place in the 'Shamrock Hotel last evening, :viul was well attended. Dr. Grace was in tho chair. The annual report was adopted after considerable discussion as to the fiunucial position of the club, which was considered by some members to be not altogether satisfactory. The report congratulates meihbers on the continued prosperity of tho club, mentioning that the directors bad successfully negotiated for the purchase of the freehold of the green, which is now absolutely the property of the shareholders. llhel I he price paid was £1200. They had also been successful iv borrowing the whole of the purchase money at the rate of 5 per cent. By this arrangement a saving of £15 year has been effected. Lo«s by death of two old and prominent members of the club, Messrs. G. S. Cooper and W. M. Maskell, was deplored, and thanks were given to the Ground Committee, Messrs. Rose, -Barry, and Seaton, for its efforts to make the green second to none, and to the donors of prizes, &c. Messrs. T. Rose and S. Percy Smith were elected directors in the place of Messrs. Jameson and Leslie, retired under the rules of tho club. Match Committee: — Messrs. Rose, Barry, Ross, ftJ^owbrsiy, and Collins ; Green Committee, Messrs. T. Rose, J. Barry, and E. W. Sea lon. (all re-elected) ; delegate to the Northern Bowling Association, Mr. Rose; Hon. Auditor, Mr. James Stephens (re-elected). The following prizes won during the past season were presented : — Mr. Mowbray's prize, gold cross for senior players, Mr. J. Longton ; Mr. Barry's prize, bowls for junior players, Mr. J. King. Messrs. Young's bowls and Mr. Nairn's picture were allotted to the Pairs Match. Circumstances, however, prevented the match being completed, but it will be decided this season. For Dr. Grace's first prize a series of matches Scotland v. the World was arranged, Scotland being victorious, and the prize was awarded to Mr. David Ross, who defeated all his opponents. Dr. Grace's second prize was presented to Mr. .1. C. Webb. It was decided that a letter of condolence be sent to the widows of the late members Messrs. G. S. Cooper and W. M. Maskell, and a motion to that effect be placed on the minutes of the club. It was stated that Messrs. Baunatyne and Co. head announced their intention of presenting two pairs of silver-mounted bowls for competition this season, on behalf of Messrs. Dewar & Sou. Tile season will be opened on the 10th of next month.
