The following team has been selected to represent Auckland in the match against Wellington next Saturday :— Full - back, Smith ; three - quarters, Absolum, Laws; Asher; five-eighths, Riley ; hair, Hay, wings, Laing, M'Gregor ; forwards, Gillett, Swindle3 r , M'Gregor, Otway, Clarkiu, Sampson, M'Kenzie. Mr. A. D. Thomson, of Wanganui, has consented to act as referee in the WellingionTaranaki match, at Hawera. Mr. G. Symes, of Hawera, is to be the referee in the matches which Auckland is to play against Canterbury and Wellington. The Wellington representative team left for the North by this morning's Manawatu train. In an Association Senior Championship match on Saturday, Rovers defeated a weak team from the Thistle Club by 7 goals to love, Barclay, Masters, Kerr, Stewart, and Williams being the scorers. The first-named scored 2 goals, and another shot of his was assisted through the goal by one of the Thistle backs. By winning this match the Hovers become the premier team for 1898, their record being— matches played, 8 ; won, 7 ; lost, 1 • goals for, 29 • against, 4. In an Association Junior Cup match Wadestown beat Horomoana by four goals to one. Excelsiors easily defeated Pelone for the Association Third-class Championship by G goals to nil. For the winners, M'Leod (2), Walker (2), M'Dougall, and Prestidge were the scorers.
