THE COWAN DRAMATIC SEASON.

♦ In a familiar play like " The Silver King/ which was put on at the Opera House on Saturday night, the Cowan Company showed that they had attempted something beyond them for adequate presentation to a metropolitan audience. The play is far removed from mere melodrama, and the characters of Wilfred Denver, "The Spider," dear old Jaikes, and Nelly Denver are associated with the names of some of the best actors and actresses known on the Australian stage. Only the other day the play was performed in Australia with Mr. Wilson Barrett in the name part, which he " created," and shortly afterwards our old friend Mr. G. S. Titheradge, now on his way to England, made a farewell appearance in the game rdle. For many reasons, which need nob be here set out, the representation of the play on Saturday fell far short of requirements. Here and there could be detected a bit of passably good work, but taken altogether the play had better been' left alone. By rou's comedy " Our Boys " is billed for to-night, and the season is to'close to-morrow evening with a performance of " Tho Battle of Life."
