It is expected that she will get off to-nufht.. Next week the Mana will go on the Patent Slip for an overhaul. The Elingamite is due here from Dunedin and Lyttelton about midday to-morrow, and sails for Sydney via East Coast and Auckland at 8 pm same day. The steamer does not leave Lyttelton this evening until after the arrival of the southern express, in order that she may bring on the passengers and outward Sun Francisco mails for transhipment to the Rotoiti at Wellington. Advices received by the local agents of the Tyser Co state that the Hawkes Bay left London for Wellington via Australia and Auckland on the 23rd ultimo. It is reported that Messrs Milburn and Co have contracted with Messrs R. aud W. Hawthorn, Leslie bind Co,' Hebburn-on-Tyne, for the construction of two steamers 425 ft in length, and intended for the Australian meat trade. The Danish barque Doris Brodersen, now due at Syduey from Natal, will on arrival at Sydney be ordered on to Westport to load coal. The Norwegian barque Alpha will proceed from South Africa to Westport to load coal for New Britain. Cuptain Barter, who was chief officer of the steamer Cornwall when that vessel last visited Wellington, remained in England to take command of the Port Chalmers. The Pacific Steam Navigation Co has contracted ■with Messrs Vlckers, Sons, and Maxim for the construction of a new steamer for the Australian mail service. The vessel will sail under charter to the Orient Co, and is to be called the Orotona. Complaints have frequently been made of late as to the remissnoss of those responsible for posting on the hoard outside the Telegraph Office the notices of arrivals and departures of steamers. The omission to post the Churleß EdwaTd aud Mawhera, which left Wellington for Nelson on Friday and Monday last, are two amongst many more instances.
